Are you labeling your child or enforcing labels upon them? As parents sometimes we don’t that we are even doing it.

Mom, my friends called me an idiot.
Honey you are not an idiot.
By repeating the word we are enforcing his beliefs that he thinks of himself in a negative way. We are trying to comfort him. However, because we are reusing the same negative word it does little to help him with this label.
So what should you say.
Maybe. “Hmmm. That must be sad for you when they say that. Then reframe it. “Remember that time ....insert a past experience where he kicked but. A great test score. Something he did around the house that made you proud.
So a lot of kids are Mean and this is one ear to help your children combat the negatives. But what about when parents do it. Yes, we do and don’t even know it because we are acting based on an emotion in that moment.

You are running late for work and you have to drop your daughter off to school. She is ready to go and you look at her. She has purple pants on and a bright orange shirt and blue shoes. You are in a rush and you may say something like “you are not going to school dressed like that”. Then a fight may happen. But what do you think your daughter is feeling after your comment. “My mom thinks I am a slob, that I can’t even dress myself, I am stupid because I am x and I don’t know what I should wear to school. Those are the labels they create in their own mind. As they get older they will become very aware of people commenting on there clothes which will create a lot of anxiety in them. So be mindful of what you say to your child and the language you use.
An option could of been. “Now that is a really creative outfit. I love how your shoes pick up the colors of your sweater. Ready to go? Understand? Empower them. Build their confidence. Maybe she will be a fashion mogul. You never know So just let things go.

How do you relieve your stress in life? Exercise, yoga, meditation, massage, watching a movie, reading, music. There are so many ways to relieve stress in life but not many people take time out of their chaotic schedules to make time for them. Especially parents. When we don’t take for us how can we be the best when we are around our children. If we are stressed our children can feel that. When we are stressed we make rash decisions, off the cuff comments and sometimes regret the choices we made. Remember back to a moment when you were stressed and how you reacted to a challenge. Probably pretty poorly. So find a way to take some time for you. Put it on your calendar. Even if it is 5 minutes of peace sitting in the car before going into your house or to work and just take a few deep breaths. You will start seeing a remarkable difference in your life and your children will be around a happier and calmer parent. Sounds like a win win for everybody. Parents, are you tired of the lying, bickering, arguing, fighting, challenging that is happening between you and your children?
Teenagers are you tired of feeling controlled, untrusted, unheard, unseen and not respected?

Well as parents we typically don't know what the rules are as well. We certainly don't spend enough time thinking about them? We surely don't tell our children why they are rules to begin with and the reasons behind the rules.
Then when the rules are broken parents just make up a punishment. What does punishment get us anyways? It makes our children angry. It stresses the parents out. Nobody is happy because we had to punish them and they are punished.
So what is the point of all this. To learn a lesson? What lessons? The point is that life is a game and if our children don't know the rules how are they supposed to win. We are setting them up for failure and dooming ourselves to raising an anxious child which equals a stressed out parent. I am in the final stages of completing this book that will solve these problems

Is your fears holding your child back from becoming the person they are supposed to be. Did your parents instill their fears on you? How did that work out for you? and Them?
As parents we have experienced a lot in this world. We feel as though we are so much wiser than our children and as a result
we shadow them with our fears of the world. You shouldn't do this or that because of what happened to us. We have good intentions. We want
them to be safe and don't want them to make the same mistakes we made in life. But when we parent from a place of fear we confuse our children.
Because they can't understand our fear because they don't have a reference point for it. We on the other hand have reference points for all of our fears because we have
experienced so much. We try to teach them based on our lives but they don't get it. It sounds like a foreign language to them. That is why most of the time whatever we tell them they should and shouldn't be doing they do the opposite. Funny how that works. They are finding their own way in the world and want to experiment with different things. Then they can make that choice on whether they should be afraid of something that we as parents are fearful of. So how can we parent from a place of wisdom, guidance and mentoring? By allowing them to have the freedom of choice. Allow them to make the mistakes that we made. Honestly, they are going to do whatever they want anyway. So why not support them in their decisions. I know there are some grey areas, especially when it comes to safety. But for the most part let them be and if they encounter a challenge be their to support them. Don't try to control them and the world that they are experiencing. Let them be fearless when they are young and full of energy. Don't make them an old person and strip away their youth. There will be plenty of that available when they become adults and possibly even parents. So give them the gift that we had. Freedom to be FEARLESS.

Are they really addicted to video games? Or is it just your imagination. When we were younger we spent hours outside playing various games, tag, football, kick the can. Where we addicted to kick the can? Did our parents challenge us and want to send us to a KCA meeting? kick the can anonymous? So how in this digital world can we be so judgmental as parents? How can we label them as addicts. It such a harsh and demeaning word. Questions to ask yourself before laying down the video game laws as the warden of electronics. What am I fearing that wants to make them stop playing video games? To tired to go to school, failing all their classes, not go to college. Live with me forever, become addicted to drugs, be homeless, go to prison and then die? What are you afraid of because they are playing Zelda with other people. This is the new world. You need to start adapting. So question yourself before you judge and label them. Sometimes it is nice just to let them be kids and play. They have so much later on in life to stress about. But now they just want to be kids and not be judged for it. Depression is a life without hope. Life without hope is the stacking of negative emotions and your thoughts can’t see the positives. What can you appreciate in your life. There has to be something that you are grateful for. Your eyes...legs..air in your lungs. When you feel yourself stacking negative emotions you are setting yourself up for a bout with depression. So when you have that first negative thought be aware that 2 more are probably coming and try something to break the pattern. A happy memory, a person you love, appreciating something that we take for granted every day. The crying of a baby (well maybe not that one), the wind blowing the trees, listening to a song you like, having a laugh about something ridiculous. Anything to change your state and keep you from progressing through your emotional stack. Practice makes better therefore the more you are aware of your thoughts the better you will become T kicking depressions ass when it surfaces. When everyone tells us we can’t that is when must. Simple as that. Believe in yourself and know that whatever challenges you are facing as a mom, dad, son, daughter, employee or human. We all have that internal fire inside of us to command and conjure up greatness to make anything possible. To live a life we always dreamed of. To pursue passion in whatever we chose. We were born with the magic inside us and there are people out there that try to rob us of our magic. Make us question our ambitions, make us doubt our existence and make us feel unworthy of everything that we know is at the core of our being. If you really want to live a life beyond your dreams and put all these doubters in your rear view mirror you have the gift.
The first step is believe that you can do it. Then take action 1 step at a time and never doubt your magic and greatness. You will struggle, you will fall, you will freakin fail a lot. In those moments believe that you can get up, learn from the failure
And find that meaning in that bump in life. That is what greatness is. Having the courage to keep pushing forward when life is punching you in the head and everyone is saying I told you so. This is what makes life so magical. That we can change our lives at any point in time. But we have to believe to make this change happen. All my love and support on your journey in life. Our children are observers of everything around them. They are passengers along for the ride to learn, explore and experience life as we see it and play their role as our students. As parents...our core responsibilities are to guide, mentor and love them. To be that role model that shows them empathy, compassion, tenderness, resilience, forgiveness and love towards everyone in our lives. As they see us maneuver our world they are constantly making notes in their mental journal...committing these moments and experiences to their memory so as to be used at a later point in time. They have no other reference point than what they see in us. So be aware of the choices you make while you are going about life. Choose love over hate, choose empathy over judgement, kindness of betrayal and good over bad. Because one day we will become their students and what they teach us can be very profound and enlightening if we live our lives with an open heart, mind and soul. When you don’t think they are paying attention they are eyes and ears wide open. So be that role model for them and they will become a role model for possibly their children for generations to come. Don’t be scared. We all wear masks. Some to impress friends, some to impress business associates, some to hide our fears, some to hide our emotions, some to hide our crazy. (Own your crazy). But as parents when we wear masks to keep our children from seeing who we really are. We believe we are protecting them from being hurt. We don’t want to make them sad. But are we really protecting them or our own egos? Do they see us as this perfect human being that can do no wrong? Or do they see through our masks and see us as liars and frauds that can’t tell them the truth. Then we want to know why they lie.We don’t give children enough credit. They are smart and can see through a lot of bullshit. So for a refreshing change. Shed that mask. Be vulnerable. Tell them the truth. Let them know that you are human. Make mistakes. Fail at a lot of things. Because that will be a gift to them. They will love you for being honest. They will love you for being human. They will love you for sharing your challenges. But most of all they will feel better about themselves when they have a hiccup in life. When they fail at something. Knowing that it is ok and we all mess up because that is what life is all about. Most importantly they will allow you into their inner circle where you need to be as a parent to guide and mentor them. So today’s challenge share something specific with your kiddo that you have been hiding and just see what happens...oh yeah BTW. When you stop lying to them...just maybe they will stop lying to you.
